“With the contribution of the LIFE programme, the European Union’s financial instrument supporting environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects.”
Project coordinated by:
Vanessa Escrig, a secondary school teacher from Castellón, won this year 2022 the Sapiència Awards, an initiative of the ‘Red de Universidades Valencianas’ for the promotion of R+D+i (RUVID) to promote scientific vocation in both students and teachers. Thanks to that, Vanessa was invited to visit the IMEDMAR facilities in Calpe this summer together with her family, where she learned about the LIFE PINNARCA project in the Mediterranean and all the conservation work that is being done.
The visit to the facilities and the conservation project inspired her so much that she was encouraged to write a scientific story for the MEDNIGHT contest, in order to disseminate the critical situation of the species. The story is entitled "Scientific Motivation" and has been the winner along with other six stories. Here you can find attached the compilation of the winning stories, where you can find Vanessa's story on page 38.
The tales from the MEDNIGHT is a transversal activity of the Mediterranean Researchers' Night, and consists of a literary contest of short stories on a scientific theme. The project was created in 2020 and celebrates its third edition this year. MEDNIGHT 2022 is coordinated by the Greek association Scico and benefits from the collaboration of 10 other institutions: Fundación para el Fomento de la Investigación Sanitaria y Biomédica de la Comunidad Valenciana (FISABIO); Asociación Europea de Mujeres Rectoras (EWORA); Fundación para la Investigación del Hospital Clínico de la Comunitat Valenciana (INCLIVA); el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC); Fundación Museo Didáctico e Interactivo de Ciencias de la Vega Baja del Segura de la Comunitat Valenciana (MUDIC); Universidad de Mesina; Universidad de Kadir Has Estambul; El Caleidoscopio y SciCo Chipre.
